Red and black pay even money. If you bet $5, you will win $5.

Single numbers pay 35 to 1. If you bet $5, you’ll win $175.

In the long run, the odds are exactly the same. If you play long enough, whether you play a single number or a color you will lose the same amount of money.

If you want to make a quick hit and run, you have to decide whether you want a big payout on a longshot (1 in 38), or a small payout on closer to even bet (18 out of 38).

Edit: The house edge in roulette is 5.26% no matter whether you bet single numbers or red/black, or even/odd, or a column, or 6 numbers.

actually john is close but off on one thing

in the long run you will lose

but in the long run you will lose 97.3% of all Single number bets

if you bet on Black or Red, or odd, even or 1-18, 19-36 all those bets in the long run you will lose roughly 52.6% of the time!

just because the house edge is 5.26% on single number bets verses more realistic bets like Red/Black due to the payoff being much higher for hitting a longshot

the expectation to lose is NOT the SAME!!!!

They are correct, What I do when I play is bet everything in one shot (you have a better chance of winning in one turn then 20 turns) Bet it all on a 49% option that is (like red or black, even or odd). You can practice at (for real money or for fun, must be 18 or older and live in the USA)

    roulette

a hundred and fifty thousand dollars……think about it…you bet a dollar you win/ or lose a dollar….you bet 10 grand you win or lose 10 grand…so you plan to bet 10 thousand dollars on a number that pays 35 to 1….there are 38 numbers so you pick # 19…..STATISTICALLY and MATHEMATICALLY your number will hit on the 19th spin of the wheel….

  5. Jacob Says:

Don’t listen to FAH-Q, that’s ridiculous. You have no better odds of winning with any number than any other in the short run. In 100 spins, usually 3 to 5 or so numbers won’t come up a single time and that’s just as likely to be 19 as it is 0. He is a mathematical illiterate.
